Transportation Services

The Trail Regional Airport

The Trail (Columbia Gardens) Airport, which is owned and operated by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, is situated just south of the Trail City limits along the Columbia River.

Effective April 10, 2006, Pacific Coastal Airlines will be operating a daily scheduled service between Vancouver International Airport and the Trail Airport, providing convenient and low-cost air transportation and including connections to Victoria and other destinations in British Columbia. The Trail Airport also accommodates air charters, business and personal aircraft. Some owners of resort properties at Rossland's Red Mountain ski area have begun using the Trail Airport as a convenient and hassle-free place to park their airplanes.

The British Columbia Air Ambulance Service uses the Trail Airport as its primary access point for serving patients at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, which is located in the City of Trail.

The Trail Airport is being continuously upgraded, with the recent addition of free overnight vehicle parking and other groundside improvements. Airside improvements have included a restricted GPS approach on Runway 16 and a soon-to-be published public GPS approach on Runway 34. Staff at the airport are available to provide altimeter, wind and temperature information.


The Castlegar Airport

The Castlegar Airport, a 30-minute drive from Trail, acts as a regional airport for the West Kootenay region. The airport is served by Air BC, with daily flights to Vancouver, British Columbia and Calgary, Alberta.



The Spokane International Airport

Full USA and International air service is available from Spokane, Washington International Airport, 195 km south of Trail.


Public Transit

Rates & Services
The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, in contract with BC Transit, operates a regional public transit service in the Greater Trail area. The transit services are operated from Trail and serve Rossland, Warfield, Genelle, Montrose and Fruitvale.

Kootenay Boundary Transit System also provides a Handi-Dart service on a reservation system for the elderly and disabled in the community.

Bus Services

DewdneyThe City is served by Greyhound Bus Lines via a local bus charter company, Dewdney Coach Lines. Connections are made daily with the Greyhound system at Castlegar and Salmo.
