Transportation Services Working Foreman/Engineering Technician IV

The City of Trail is seeking a qualified individual to fill the full-time position of Transportation Services Working Forman / Engineering Technician IV.

Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for the performance of duties specifically related to the organization and coordination of work carried out by the Engineering Department.  The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the overall Public Works operation and maintenance of Roads, Parks, Cemetery, Utilities and Facilities and providing Public Works with engineering services on City infrastructure, underground utilities and above-ground structures.  The incumbent will be able to work with little supervision and will be expected to exercise considerable independent judgment. 

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Must hold a diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology in the discipline of Civil Engineering Technology (Municipal option preferred), and be registered, or eligible for registration, as an A.Sc.T. (or equivalent) with the ASTTBC.  Demonstrated equivalent training and experience may be acceptable as determined by the City.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of terminology, materials, methods, labour and equipment employed in Municipal infrastructure planning and construction.
  • A minimum of three year’s senior experience, preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work reliably with minimum supervision and to meet prescribed deadlines.
  • Proficient in advanced AutoCAD skills and in computer-assisted infrastructure modeling and engineering design and should have GIS application experience with AutoDesk software (MAP, MapGuide, Onsite) and must have appropriate skills in ESRI software (ArcView, ArcInfo or ArcGIS).

This position is within the CUPE Local 2087 Bargaining Unit.  Wages and benefits are as per the Collective Agreement.
