The City contracts its animal control services to the Trail Branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BCSPCA). The Trail BCSPCA operates an animal shelter at 7700 Highway 3B (above the City's RV Park).
Dogs and other animals are regulated within City limits by the Animal Control Bylaw.
Changes to the City's Animal Control Bylaw to allow no more than three (3) cats at any property in Trail took effect on June 22, 2015. If you own more than 3 cats as of this date, please know that they may remain in your care; however, as the number of cats you own decreases naturally over time, you may not replace cats that would bring the number to more than 3.
Residents who have more than 3 cats prior to June 22, 2015 are encouraged to complete and submit the City of Trail Cat Registration form to Trail City Hall. This will allow the City to be informed of the number of cats in your ownership prior to the bylaw taking effect, for reference, if a complaint is received about your property in future.
The Animal Control Bylaw contains provisions prohibiting the keep of horses, cattle, sheep, goats, swine, fowl, poultry and bees in the Municipality.
