FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 21, 2020

TRAIL BC – The City of Trail is very pleased to announce it has received a generous donation of $23,500 USD from the Murphy Family Foundation towards the Gyro Park Playground Project. The project is currently under construction and includes new playground equipment offering a high level of inclusive play for all children. The equipment is intended to engage sensory systems while building motor, cognitive and social skills.

“The Murphy Family Foundation is excited to be a part of this project,” said Rich and Annie Murphy, founders of the Murphy Family Foundation. “Providing children with positive and engaging play is important to the success of Trail’s community. We look forward to its completion and we know it will be enjoyed for years to come.”

“We appreciate the ongoing support from the Murphy Family Foundation,” said Mayor Lisa Pasin. “Their contribution to this project, along with their funding to the Trail SK8 Park and the Lower Sunningdale Sport Court, will go a long way to support children and families in our community.”

In addition to the Murphy Family Foundation contribution, the City also received $22,500 from the Columbia Basin Trust’s (CBT) Basin Plays program – a fund that supports the improvement of facilities and equipment for children and youth so they can enjoy inclusive and accessible physical activity and sport. A balance of $2,500 will be received once the City submits a final report to CBT.

The City budgeted $445,000 in its 2020 Capital Project budget to complete the project. In May 2020 Council approved to enter into an agreement with Habitat Systems Incorporated, a company that specializes in the creation of outdoor spaces, for the installation of the new playground equipment and ground surfacing for a total of $371,258 plus taxes.
