With Re-Opening, here are some key points to remember:

  1. Enhanced protocols and sufficient distancing will be in place - Re-Opening in phases not mean we will be back to the way things were before the COVID-19 pandemic.  Preventative measures will still be in place. These measures will be posted at all sites as appropriate.
  2. Not every amenity and service will be available right away – We still need to be cautious. If our enhanced protocols don’t work for certain buildings, spaces, or services, we will hold off until it is safe to re-open.
  3. Do your part. We can’t go backwards now, we’ve worked too hard - We commend all of you for your hard work and sacrifices over the last two months.  We ask that you continue to follow all recommended preventative measures and adhere to any restrictions noted by the City as sites start to re-open. And, please be supportive and courteous so we can continue to protect everyone in our community.

Re-Opening of BC Parks

On May 14, BC Parks will start to reopen the majority of provincial parks and protected areas and marine parks. People across the province will have more access to safe outdoor recreation opportunities, while meeting the guidelines of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO). In support of staying local and avoiding unnecessary travel, BC residents will be given preferential access for the 2020 camping season. Non-BC residents with existing reservations should contact the call centre prior to June 15 to receive a full refund. Reservations made by non-residents after the system reopens on May 25th may be subject to immediate cancellation. Visit www.bcparks.ca for more information.

Hiking and biking trails

The BC Parks closures have a small impact on the local hiking and biking trails that are managed and maintained by the Kootenay Columbia Trail Society (KCTS)  -  trails remain open for local recreational use, with the exception of the "SMDA" trails located in King George VI Provincial Park. KCTS has installed signs at trailheads to remind users of the COVID-19 preventative measures in place.  Please familiarize yourself with these regulations before using the trails so our communities can remain safe and healthy.  For additional information or questions related to the trails, please contact KCTS directly at information@kcts.ca

Open burning restrictions

Open burning is not permitted within the City of Trail.
Effective noon (Pacific time) on Thursday, April 16, 2020, most open burning activities will be prohibited throughout British Columbia. Please see www2.gov.bc.ca for more information.

COVID-19 resources and information

The City of Trail continues to follow all recommendations advanced by the Federal Government, the Provincial Government, the Provincial Health Officer and Interior Health as part of protecting the health and safety of the community.  The City of Trail encourages all residents to take necessary precautions and to consult with credible websites for ongoing updates.
