Home Owner Grant

The Home Owner Grant is a provincial program that helps reduce the amount of residential property tax you pay. You must apply every year before paying your annual property taxes.

Claiming your Home Owner Grant - New Process Starting 2021

  • Starting in 2021, residents in all BC municipalities who are eligible for the Home Owner Grant no longer apply for the Home Owner Grant through their municipal office.
  • Everyone now applies directly to the province using a new online system that’s easy to use and will process applications faster.  All the information is at www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant and the online system is available at https://www.etax.gov.bc.ca/btp/HOG
  • The province will also accept telephone applications at 1-888-355-2700 Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday. (they are closed on stat holidays)
  • When entering your roll number on the province’s site or automated phone line, do not include the first “0”

  • Program eligibility is unchanged.
